Here is the Louis C.K. appearance on Conan O'Brien that I mentioned in class. He discusses why he refuses to get cell phones for his daughters, and it really reminds me of Peggy Orenstein's "I Tweet, Therefore I Am." I strongly encourage you to watch...it is funny and smart! Also, feel free to comment on this here.
I found this video funny because of how truthful it was. I think Louis C.K. makes great points on cell phone use. I understand why he does not want to get cell phones for his children because of what they do to us. I see where he is coming from. We should develop our personality when we are children and understand whether something we say is hurtful or not. Through texting we lose our personality at times and almost become robotic because we tune out everything around us. Just being present is something that is important, which we are seeing less and less of. We want someone to be with us all the times, which can lead to risky behavior such as texting while driving. Some things can wait.
This was definitely amusing. I totally agree with him in that we fail to appreciate sadness sometimes because of how easy communication is with our phones!
He brings up an interesting point about people having trouble being alone and using cell phones to suppress their emotions. I agree that we should savor our emotions, whether it be sadness, anger, or happiness. These emotions are what makes us feel alive.
